Job opportunity: Educational NZSL interpreter for primary school

Linden School is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Interpreter to support a student in a year 3/4 class. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a small and supportive primary school team, facilitating learning and communication.
The Role
In this position, you will work closely with the classroom teacher to ensure our student has full access to the New Zealand Curriculum and support social interactions within the school community.
Key responsibilities:
Provide high-quality, age-appropriate NZSL/English interpreting during lessons, assemblies, and school events
Work in collaboration with the teacher to ensure lesson content is accessible by adapting vocabulary and preparing resources as needed
Assist the student in achieving the goals outlined in their individual education plan (IEP).
Support the student in developing independence and confidence by working in collaboration with the school and the student's whānau.
About you:
We seek an individual with strong linguistic skills who is also passionate about working within a primary school environment.
Requirements:
Fluency in NZSL and English: able to communicate concepts into age-appropriate NZSL
Relevant qualification: Bachelor of Arts (NZSL-English Interpreting) from a recognised institution
Interpersonal skills: Patience, energy, a collaborative nature, and a sense of fun
Te Tiriti o Waitangi: Demonstrate commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
Ethics: An understanding of SLIANZ Code of Ethics, particularly regarding boundaries in an educational context
Child safety: Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Children’s Act police vetting check.
