Kia Ora Room 2. Just an update on what is happening with our learning areas. As we now have some students back at school I will be teaching at school so our Zoom will now be on M,W and Th. This is so it does not clash with my time at school. Seesaw continues to be popular. I try to add new activities each day that relate to our Zoom lessons.

If you have not been able to access our Zoom lessons this week we are looking at Telling the time (hour and half hour). Writing is all about colours and writing a poem. The worksheets were included in your work packs. Continue on with our long vowel sounds,addition,sharing in maths and of course reading the new books I put in your packs.

If you would like to do some art check out Ms R's new activities I see she has added to the website. Take a photo and put it on our Seesaw page for all to see.

Hello everyone. I thought I'd just let you know that I haven't forgotten about you all. I've been busy putting together some videos for learning. I've tried to make them short and fun so there will be quiet a few by the time school starts properly again. I hope you are all doing your reading but also having some down time and playing. Below I've added a powerpoint of high frequency words. Please go through them and practice them. The level to practice is the level on your reading book but it would be good to have a go at the higher ones to exercise our brain muscle. Kia Kaha room 2 lovelies.

This is a really good game students can play that teaches them sounds of letters.

A good maths game site.

Room 2 students love yoga and this site combines stories with movement.

During this time of students at home here are some ideas that you can do with you son/daughter to maintain their learning.

  • Write a sentence/story about the book they have read or their favourite movie
  • Write out a sentence from their reading book,cut it up and ask them to rearrange it.Then ask them to read it back to you.
  • If you have chalk it is always a good medium for letter writing and drawing. From their chalk drawings they can write a story.
  • For maths-counting games using toys,blocks,cans of food
  • For maths fractions- cutting fruit or sandwiches into pieces and talking about how many pieces they they have. When they eat one piece how many are left.
  • Maths and art- children can trace around objects and shapes, making funny pictures from them.

It is important to remember that the most valuable tool for learning is the language we use. Talking to children about everyday objects and making up stories is just as important as writing a story.

Welcome to Room 2
I am Ms Dabbs, but I prefer to be called Bex. This is my third year at Linden and I am so grateful and lucky to be working in such a supportive, inclusive and fun school. Room 2 is a diverse melting pot of enthusiastic, energetic, motivated year 1-3 children who make coming to work all the more worthwhile. Even on days when I am not feeling at my best they pull me up and get me going.
Each day starts off with the class ‘Gru’ greeting students at the door with a handshake, hug or high-5 and then taking the roll. Students are encouraged to greet others in different languages and wait for an appropriate response. We try to keep to the same learning routine each day to reduce stress and anxiety in students that find unpredictability a challenge. Every student is randomly assigned class responsibilities such as compost, milk monitors, floor inspectors and class photographer. This encourage everyone to be responsibly, participate and care for our class environment.
This term I have introduced the class to meditation and everyday after lunch we sit and listen to meditation music and have learnt how to focus our minds. This has reduced the amount of time it takes to calm the class after a busy fun filled playtime.
As I mentioned Room 2 students are energetic so on fine days we try to be outside as much as possible either playing a class game, working with chalk or sitting on beanbags reading. On wet days we can be found dancing around and exercising to music.
I believe if you have fun with your students and show them that you are not afraid to be yourself in front of them then they feel safe and engage more with you through trust and respect.

Room 2 visits the school library on Wednesday. Books issued in the previous week must be returned before new books can be taken out.
