Growing Great Men Programme

At Linden School we have confident, competent, creative and considerate young men.

In 2012 we developed a programme that builds on these characteristics in our year 4-6 boys.
  • Boys face unique challenges
  • It is easier to build boys than to fix men
  • Boys tend to be more competitive than girls
  • Boys are risk takers
  • To boys, the game is the most important –to girl
    s, relationships matter more
  • We are a mostly female staff at Linden School –we want to ensure our boys’ needs are met
What do we want to achieve?
  • Enhanced learning in “male rich” environments and industries by offering a range of experiences that challenge our young men
  • Support and mentoring fo our boys, their communities and their families because Linden School is part of a community and the community is part of our school
  • Provide our young men with skills and knowledge to deal with issues and choices that they may face in the future
  • Monitor the results of the programme and adjust it to suit the boys’ needs
Skills and attitudes we promote:
  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • A sense of self
  • Calculated risk taking
  • Enjoyment and fun
  • Self-discipline
  • Positive self-esteem
  • Decision making
  • Goal setting & reflection

Programme Structure

The programme generally runs over ten weeks with a focus on the above skills and attitudes.  At the start of each week students are expected to set goals and reflect on them following the “Growing Great Men” (GGM) sessions. Each week there is a learning activity, a lunchtime sporting activity and an early morning fitness session.
